In fact the weather has been sunny and dry, although a bit chilly, for most of this month so far.
Right, now I’ve got the terribly British thing of talking about the weather out of the way….SHOW NEWS! Yes, after thirteen months we attended our first actual show this last weekend. East Anglian Collie Association ran their Champ (2020) and Open shows on the same day and the committee did an amazing job of ensuing the whole day was COVID safe and yet friendly and welcoming.
We took Dilys and Ripley, with Elaine’s Obi coming along for a day out too(and he loved every minute of it). Ripley was, unfortunately, a little too over-enthusiastic about getting back on the show circuit, although I’m sure he caused plenty of amusement ringside. He was placed a well-deserved third (out of three, foolish boy!) in the Champ show and I think we may have to work on his exuberance for future shows!
Dilys, well what can I say, she was excited to be going out again and stepped back into the ring like she’d never been out of it. Eleven and a half years old and still showing & moving beautifully for Deb. In the Champ show, she was Best of Breed and Best Veteran in Breed under breed specialist Anne Smith and went on to Reserve Best Veteran in Show.
Unfortunately, due to some issues with timings of classes, it was very late in the day before the Open Show held their Smooth Collie classes. With a young puppy and a happy but tired veteran, we made the decision to head home before our classes, apologies to the judge for this but we still didn’t get home until rather late in the day.
But we did it! First show of 2021, wonderful to see people again, it felt safe and also like a little bit of normality again.
